Thank you for sharing your thoughts and questions Mimpac. I hear what you're saying, but what I was implying is something different, and no I don't want the President or government to take over all the airwaves :)

When I talked about "real understanding, real hope, and real healing", I was talking specifically about understanding the cycle of extreme violence and how people (of various cultures) are breaking this cycle.

Our schools are a source of so much media content, and a President can effect that by helping to initiate the study of Peace in more schools. There are stories of people from from all over the world who have broken their addiction to extreme violence, and such stories (expressed through many forms of media) could be included in Peace Education curriculum. These stories of healing would help to create more healing. The study of Peace continues to evolve (like science), so there is plenty of multi-cultural/diverse perspective to explore and discuss. A President could also encourage all people (not just students) to get in on the global peace dialogue, and use various forms of media to express their views.

If that isn't what you were thinking, and you only wanted the president to commission or create videos and other media which would have their popularity determined by market mechanisms, then you are essentially asking the leader of the free world to spend their time and resources making self-help movies. Don't you think he would have far more productive and pressing avenues for creating change?

So you want the potential President to pledge to advocate for a massive, all-encompassing media push that promotes a certain ideology? Pretty dangerous idea. See, its not a good thing when the content of press and media is largely determined or even influenced by the Government. That's what happens in totalitarian environments. In order for your premise to work, it is implied that the Gov't, and specifically the Executive branch, would have some sort of majority control over the airwaves, which would essentially give the President carte blanche to influence the public's mass perceptions, thus removing his accountability. Sure, it would probably start off harmless enough; the first wave of media would probably promote peace, but what happens when the President's policies become unpopular, and in order to stay in office he creates a new media push that inspires peace but also promotes his own image? Your plan implies that the president would have the power to do such a thing, and that is a violation of your rights in a democracy.

And what is "real understanding, real hope, and real healing"? Would that be Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, Agnostic, or atheistic healing, hope, and understanding? There is a distinct ideology behind most people's perceptions of those words--which ideology would your media promote?

I think your question is very pro-creative and one that makes allot of sense both on a spiritual as well as human level. I think that when it comes down to it neither the president nor any governing body will be the key players in promoting and promulgating positive vibrations through as many mediums as possible, but rather inspired people like you.

Thank you for inspiring me to use Blogs more, the web, video cameras, written word, spoken word, and so forth to communicate Love and Light to more and more people.
