Dangerous Situation for World’s Only Imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize R... U.S. CAMPAIGN FOR BURMA PRESS RELEASE

Dangerous Situation for World’s Only Imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize Recipient

Doctor Under Arrest, Aung San Suu Kyi Ill

(Washington, DC) The U.S. Campaign for Burma today called on world leaders to demand Burma’s military dictator Than Shwe immediately free the country’s imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize recipient Aung San Suu Kyi and her physician who has been detained since last Thursday. The Campaign especially urged U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to speak out for the freedom of Aung San Suu Kyi and her doctor.

“The world needs to act urgently to ensure that Aung San Suu Kyi is released immediately, so that she will have all the medical attention she needs,” said Aung Din, co-founder of the U.S. Campaign for Burma. “The arrest of Aung San Suu Kyi’s doctor puts her in a seriously dangerous situation.”

Aung San Suu Kyi, the world’s only imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize recipient, is reportedly suffering from extremely low blood pressure and has not eaten in days — yet, Than Shwe’s military regime arrested her doctor on May 7th and only allowed a junior doctor to monitor her situation. Without full medical care, it is impossible to know details of her condition and whether she is okay. She has been detained for almost six years since May 30, 2003, when she and her party members were brutally attacked by the regime’s militias in Depayin, Burma. Scores of party members were killed and she was put into detention. According to the law, used by the regime to justify her continued detention, she can only be detained for a maximum of six years. She will reach her sixth year under detention on May 24, 2009. However, the regime has shown no signs they intent to grant her freedom and just last week denied an appeal made by her lawyer for her release.

The regime has often refused medical care to gravely ill imprisoned political leaders in Burma, resulting in death.

Aung San Suu Kyi is the legitimate leader of Burma. Her political party, the National League for Democracy, won 82 percent of parliamentary seats in a national election in 1990, but the military regime refused to cede power. Known to many as “Asia’s Nelson Mandela”, Aung San Suu Kyi has won dozens of international awards for her non-violent struggle to bring an end to military rule in Burma. The military junta has been condemned by the United Nations, United States government, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and other groups for its horrific human rights abuses.

To date, the United Nations has remained “puzzlingly” silent on the arrest of Aung San Suu Kyi’s doctor, added Aung Din.##

Yes, media can effect a positive change - only if the driving intention is of the Highest Integrity.
It's a delicate and difficult balance to provide loving support while paying the bills - yet, we MUST be conscious of our "ripple/domino effects" on each other; all life; the earth and beyond in order to achieve that balance.
Letting go of our need for status & stuff and moving toward sustainability and spiritual growth is necessary and I do believe the Universe in calling us to do just that in a much bigger way right now.
Finally, these notions have become trendy and trendy sells - if alternative energy sources, organic, biodynamic & sustainable lifestyles, complimentary methods of responsible health care, spiritual growth, more love, more joy, more peace, healing not just treatment and living respectful and meaningful lives are trendy then I say, YES - media can facilitate peace - as long as we maintain the balance between need and greed.
Our priorities are shifting - one carbon footprint at a time - it must be - we've reached a tipping point. Either we step up in a bigger way or lose! The energy is in motion. The time is now. Trendy? Who cares - as long as media thinks it sells!
Now, if only the large, controlling organizations that 'rule the world' would come to terms with the fact that they have to change (for the better) as well and do it on their own for the greater good.
The time is now. Be the change. Live in Love & Light. Make happiness your right. Live in Peace, be the peace.
Set a new trend.

What is the potential? If we use all souces of open communication? Can you say Quantum Evolution? That is the power of all of us individual pennies..adding up to make us all richer than we ever thought possible. Enriching the future with our vision...Enriching our children's lives with our spiritual maturity. Us, Individual atoms vibrating together to move energy....awaken hearts to the truth of spirit. Don't stop your efforts to love us forward! I won't ever stop!
With Great hope and joy,
Lisa!

Media is only a pointer. Collective consciousness already exists. It is only through oneness that peace exists. By seeing ourselves in others, we will know peace.

Hi Yaron. In my opinion if we use all these forms of media for a peaceful vision then our potential to strengthen our collective visualisation of peace on our planet would be undoubtedly GREATLY enhanced. 'Where there is no vision then the people perish' ....and therefore where there is vision then the people flourish :) Especially if we were to look at all the problems that require solutions and show the solutions to those problems alongside them in each and every case :) and i quote...

Peace is more likely the more involved people answer your question, Yaron.

It is a question of the now thousands / millions of people across the world who are reach to advance TheShift which has been taking place and is unstoppable. Since leaders across the world have not done it, it is up to us to work towards PEACE and HARMONY in the world recognizing there is UNITY across DIVERSITY. Let's keep going!

As a voice over artist working for CBS television during the 1992 Olympic Games - I wondered what it would be like if we used media for constructive purposes? I prayed to use my voice for the highest good of all. The work I do with Voices of Eden today, is the result of that.

If we broadcast good, more people will be exposed to it. This will provide their brain with another option. This is good for peace. It teaches it, through example. I am happy to explore how we can all collaborate.

Yaron -

The potential is absolutely limitless! People on this planet are mentored through the media - all forms. The media has helped to shape our world today - both good and bad. If we can PUSH our way into every corner of the media, using messages of peace - we can and will achieve our goal of world peace.

‎"Why should there be hunger and deprivation in any land, in any city, at any table, when man has the resources and the scientific know-how to provide all mankind with the basic necessities of life?"
